first_img Written by February 6, 2020 /Sports News – Local Dixie State Baseball Continues Season At Cal State-Los Angeles This Weekend Tags: Dixie baseball FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailLOS ANGELES-This weekend, 3-0 Dixie State baseball returns to southern California to face Northwest Nazarene Friday and Saturday and host Cal State-Los Angeles Saturday and Sunday in hopes of keeping their hot start to the season ongoing.The Trailblazers will ride with right-handed pitcher Justin Dunham Friday. Saturday, to conclude the series with the Nighthawks, Dixie State will go with right-handed hurler Haiden Hendricks.Later Saturday, as the series against the Golden Eagles commences, Dixie State goes with left-handed pitcher Jack Gonzales.Sunday, the Trailblazers will have left-handed pitcher Tevita Gerber, the reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pitcher of the week, on the mound.Presently, Dixie State is No. 17 in the Perfect Game NCAA Division II preseason Top 25 poll.In his eighth season at the helm of the Trailblazers’ program, head coach Chris Pfatenhauer is 242-125-1 (.659) at Dixie State and 294-184-1 (.614) as a collegiate baseball head coach. Pfatenhauer has never had a losing season as the Trailblazers’ head coach.Sophomore third baseman Tyson Fisher, the reigning RMAC offensive player of the week, is currently batting .636 and leads the Trailblazers in hits (7), doubles (3) and RBI (5).Fisher, senior first baseman/designated hitter Jake Engel and senior catcher Cade Spurlin, all have one home run on the season for Dixie State.As these will be Northwest Nazarene’s first games of the season, the Nighthawks have no statistics to record as of yet.The Nighthawks are coached by Joe Schaefer who is entering his second season as Northwest Nazarene’s head coach. Schaefer led the Nighthawks to a 24-24 record in his first campaign at the helm.Dixie State is 6-2 all-time against Northwest Nazarene.This weekend’s games are also the first of the season for Cal State-Los Angeles.The Golden Eagles are coached by 13-year head coach Vince Beringhele, who is 301-294 (.506) as the head coach at Cal State-Los Angeles.
