Weinstein trial day 3 closes with no verdict, more jury requests

first_imgKuzma/iStock(NEW YORK) — The Harvey Weinstein trial jury deliberations have ended for the day with no verdict. The jury sent notes to the judge in rapid succession at the end of their third day of deliberations — both focused on Annabella Sciorra’s testimony.“We the jury request for the court to read us the cross-examination and everything afterward in the testimony of Annabella Sciorra. Thank you! We are done, judge, for today,” one note read. The other requested a look at the list of people Annabella Sciorra spoke with at an event mentioned during the trial, presumably, about her alleged sexual assault by Weinstein. On Thursday morning, the jury’s day is starting with their review of Paul Feldsher’s testimony. He was the first defense witness who challenged Annabella Sciorra’s claim that she was raped by Weinstein in the winter of 1993-94.Jurors will also take a look at PowerPoint slides from the testimony of Dr. Barbara Ziv, a forensic psychologist who studies the behavior of sexual assault victims. They will also review correspondence between Weinstein and Black Cube — the Israeli private spy agency hired to keep tabs on the Hollywood mogul’s accusers.Weinstein stands charged with raping one woman in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013 and performing a forcible sex act on a different woman, who has since identified herself as former Weinstein production assistant Miriam “Mimi” Haleyi, in 2006. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and claims any sexual encounters were consensual. In addition to the two women behind those charges, four others, including Sciorra, testified in support of prosecutors’ efforts to demonstrate a pattern of sexual predation. On Wednesday, the jury sent a note to the judge asking for a re-reading of actress Rosie Perez’s testimony. Perez took the stand in January, offering testimony in support of actress Sciorra’s allegations against Weinstein. They had also requested the testimony transcript from Haleyi, as well as all emails from any of Weinstein’s email addresses to Haleyi. The jury began its first day of deliberations on Tuesday, asking Manhattan Supreme Court Judge James Burke for a blueprint of Weinstein’s former Manhattan apartment where Haleyi alleges she was sexually assaulted in 2006. They also requested legal clarification of the charges that could send the movie mogul to prison for the rest of his life.If you or someone you know experienced sexual assault and is seeking resources, call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673). Data Center Is Planned at Closed State Line Coal Plant

first_imgData Center Is Planned at Closed State Line Coal Plant FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPrint分享Midwest Energy News:A century ago, the State Line coal-fired power plant in northwest Indiana helped Chicago develop thriving industry and electrify public transportation.Soon, the former power plant’s site on the shore of Lake Michigan may again become a driver of the area’s success in the modern-day digital economy. A group of developers including a Gary, Indiana, native have plans to make it home of a massive data center providing server space for national companies and major institutions. They also plan to develop an on-site tech startup incubator, renewable energy generation and a greenhouse warmed by waste heat from the servers. It’s the kind of development that locals in the heavily industrial, heavily polluted region want to see on the site, which some worried would languish or become home to more heavy industry after the coal plant closed in 2012.The data center could eventually cover a million square feet, composed of five buildings of 100,000 or more square feet each. [Tom] Dakich, [the site’s developer]  said they will start with one building of about 105,000 square feet and then move forward depending on demand for leased server space.  While the State Line coal plant sent out as much as 515 MW of power onto transmission lines, the State Line data center will need anywhere from about 10 to 100 MW to run its round-the-clock operations. Dakich said the three substations on the property, with a capacity of several hundred megawatts, could help get sufficient power to the center. However the substations are part of the Illinois utility ComEd’s infrastructure, whereas the utility NIPSCO would be the data center’s provider. He’s hoping they can broker an agreement to let the data center use the ComEd substations and nearby transmission lines.Meanwhile, the data center will generate its own renewable energy with solar panels on the roof and mounted on the ground, and wind turbines likely also on the premises, Dakich said. He said they even want to try hydro power, with a 5 kw turbine mounted in a canal that comes off the lake onto the site. The data center will also have natural gas-fired generators on-site, plans say. And the waste heat generated by the servers will be captured to warm a greenhouse to be operated by Purdue University Northwest, Dakich said.More: Northwest Indiana Defunct Coal Plant Site Slated For Massive Data Centerlast_img read more

first_imgHUNDREDS of patients waiting for ultrasound scans at Letterkenny General Hospital haven’t even had their letters of referral from their GPs opened because of a shortage of staff, donegaldaily.com can reveal. The 550 patients are from all over County Donegal, with some of the referrals made as far back as last January.Forms have been piling up in the radiology department, we have been told. The HSE has promised to deal with the backlog of cases over the next six weeks – at a time when the hospital is facing massive cutbacks due to a multi-million euro overspend. The HSE claims all the cases are classified as non-urgent.One patient whose GP sent a referral for a scan EIGHT MONTHS AGO told us: “It is very worrying. I know it is a precautionary scan but there’s always a chance that something shows up, even cancer. It has left me worried for months on end.“I know the staff are doing their best; this problem lies with the Health Minister and those at the top.” The Radiology unit at the hospital has met with management to discuss clearing the backlog of cases. That means all new cases are now being put on hold.“It’s a shambles,” one GP told us, “you can talk all day about who’s to blame, but at the end of the day it’s cutbacks and it’s the patients who suffer deep stress who are the ones who suffer.”One hospital insider said a new waiting list will be created whilst the old one is cleared.“It’s a never-ending cycle,” said the source. “We just don’t enough people, otherwise we wouldn’t be in this position. There has been an issue where maternity cover hasn’t been provided for staff who have been off work.”A HSE spokesperson confirmed there are 550 patients awaiting action on ultrasound referrals.“GPs in Donegal have been issued with a letter from the hospital advising on the plan to address the waiting list,” the HSE said in a statement yesterday.“When the waiting list is cleared, it is planned to explore what measures can be put in place to minimise waiting times for this service by matching capacity with demand for scans. “The action plan will consist of additional ultrasound sessions outside of usual clinics so that the waiting list will be clear within six weeks, and an imaging room has been freed up to allow this to happen.”The promise comes as the HSE attempts to implement cuts across the health services. The planned closure of the Gynae Ward at the hospital is being met with massive resistance from staff and patients. And nationally the Government is planning to axe medical cards for thousands of patients as part of a deal with the Troika.REVEALED: SHAMBLES AT LETTERKENNY GENERAL AS STAFF CUTS LEAVE SCAN PATIENTS IN THE LURCH was last modified: August 29th, 2012 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

With neither Park nor Crown in action on Thursday, a win for Parakeets would see them move two points clear atop the standings whilst having played the same number of games. For Yap, they have so far lost a League joint high of six games this season and are on a hunt for a result that can kick start their season.Third from bottom, they (Yap) have collected only 6 points from their first 8 games, winning only two and losing the other 6.Fans watch the action unfoldThe day’s action will however kick-off with Equator taking one Nomad.Equator lost 3-1 to Yap Stars last week and will hope to make amends against a Nomad side that has been average since the League started, winning four (D2 L2) in their first 8 games. The other fixtures pit mid-table Typhoon against rooted Elephants, Yeak Kabowa takes on Bajim while Aidenal hosts the so far disappointing Dream.Park’s Joseph Bukenya still leads the scorers’ charts with 19 goals, six ahead of his closest rivals Adfatah Ahmed (Yeak Kabowa) and his (Bueknya) teammate Shaffic MulangiraComments Tags: Futsal Super Leaguetoplast_img read more
